An introduction

Built by Mark is a one-person web studio located in the village of Histon, a mile or so north of Cambridge, UK.

If you're looking for a web site but not interested in any of the technical aspects, here is some basic information:

  • I build web sites that work for your business
  • Your web site will be delivered on time
  • Your site will be easy to update
  • I work to Web Standards
  • I comply with accessibility guidelines

Some small technical details

I work on projects of all sizes, from small brochure sites for local companies through to the XML standardization of large data collections for international publishers. I am happy to work on the front or back end of projects and believe that an understanding of the full process is an invaluable asset to anyone in this line of business.

I undertake web and print design work as well as web programming (PHP), client-side scripting (JavaScript), and ways to combine the two (Ajax). I also take on information architecture jobs and data processing and conversion work on large-scale information projects, such as historic archives and educational resources. I have a particular interest in information hierarchies, taxonomies, and the mechanics of tagging.

For more information on me see the about section.

Some words about cost

For most web sites, a fixed price can be agreed for the whole project. For larger runs of work, such as data processing and information architecture work, I charge by the hour as the projects tend to be more open-ended.
